"LEILA PINTO: ART THAT SCORES" article about my work by art collector, George Curi.

George Curi / Comment on this

"Just watched "Maestro" starring Bradley Cooper and Carey Mulligan. There was a scene that really resonated. Leonard Bernstein (Cooper) confessed to his wife, Felicia (Mulligan) that "(summer) sings in me no more." A line from the American poetess, Edna St. Vincent Millay. Mulligan poignantly replied "If summer doesn't sing in you, then nothing sings in you. And if nothing sings in you, then you can't make music."

Comparatively, no one comes closer to liberating art in a lyrical fashion than Leila Pinto. Experiencing her work is experiencing a panoply of bold brush stokes in continuous, uninterrupted, perpetual motion. A symphony of ingenuity, mastery and virtuosity.

Before meeting her at an Art Basel exhibit in Miami, I was an admirer. The second we met, it's like we danced. They were celebrating her pieces in motion graphics and outdoor installations. Graceful, brilliant, evocative, sensual are transitive verbs that defined her collection and our liaison.

There was a behemoth, outdoor installation in the Hudson Yards, NYC- turned into a living, breathing, multi-dimensional, interactive canvas. The walls and ceiling were draped in an iridescent, buoyant, airy fabric, illuminated by lasers. This piece undulated rhythmically with your own body's heat and movement. In conjunction with the elements of air and moisture. Not to mention, prodigious flat-screen motion graphics projections that were incandescent, lyrical, exhilarating.

The music of art sings in Leila. And if the music of art sings in Leila, then Leila doesn't just create art. Leila creates art that sings.

I am now a small collector. Every time I look at her work, her art sings in me too."
